After Orlando Hit and Run, Car Crashes into Building
Following a hit and run incident, the involved vehicle ended up crashing into Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
After a car hit two other cars in downtown Orlando, it took off from the scene – but didn’t make it far. It soon after rammed into the front of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, causing minor damage to the venue.
According to the police report, the yet unidentified driver hit a first car at around 11 pm. He then fled this scene, only to hit yet another vehicle. The impact of the second crash caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, veering off onto the Seneff Arts Plaza located in front of the concert venue. But that still wasn’t enough for this driver who was determined to get away. Once the vehicle came to a stop, the driver then plowed through at least one metal barrier located along the front of the venue, near the valet parking lane, before smashing the car head on into the building itself. With a now totaled car, this was literally the end of the road for the driver, who was soon detained by law enforcement authorities.
A spokesman for the Dr. Phillips Center told a local news channel that the driver’s exact speed was unknown, but was fast enough to cause the vehicle to become airborne. According to the witness, if it were not for the metal barriers, which helped slow the oncoming vehicle down, the damage to both the building and the driver could have been much, much worse. No performance was going on at the time of the incident.
Responding law enforcement report finding narcotics in the vehicle and, although not yet confirmed, it is expected that the driver was driving under the influence. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. They are currently facing an array of charges stemming from the multiple accidents. The driver will also likely be responsible for the damage to the performing arts center, the total of which is still being determined.
