DUI in Daytona Beach Badly Injures 42-Year-Old Man

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 16, 2017

Yet another Daytona Beach accident has left one dead. This incident took place on the afternoon of this past Monday, when a 30-year-old woman crashed into a telephone pole on Indian Lake Road. The Daytona Beach Police Department arrived quickly on the scene with the emergency response teams and their accounts have merged with those of several eyewitnesses to describe the situation as it occurred.

The official report states that Brittany Ward was behind the wheel of her pickup truck driving along Indian Lake Road. Her boyfriend, an unnamed 42-year-old, was in the passenger seat beside Ward. Witnesses to the crash said that Ward was driving faster than is appropriate for this stretch of road, and there is indication that she was piloting the vehicle well above the posted limit.

Losing control of the vehicle, Ward swerved off of the road and crashed into a telephone pole planted on the side of the asphalt. The impact was strong enough to buckle the passenger side of the car around the pole and make it impossible for the emergency response teams to open the door and withdraw the badly injured 42-year-old. In order to free the man, firefighters were forced to remove the entire roof of the vehicle, cutting through the metal with a powerful flame and then lifting the entire scalp of the car off by hand. Then they were able to reach in and pull the man onto a stretcher and transport him via helicopter to a hospital. According to the police, the injuries suffered by the man were severe and numerous.

Ward, on the other hand, seems to have come out of the wreck relatively unscathed. She was arrested on the spot for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Details pertaining to any other suspicious agents acting within her system (such as drugs) have not been released, and it is not known whether or not the authorities have finished taking blood samples. It is similarly not known what the condition of the boyfriend is at this time, although as the investigation develops more details will become available.
