Winter Park police report that a witness helped them track down and arrest a suspect who drove his car into three construction workers and drove away from the accident scene. Police investigators say that they strongly suspect that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and are waiting for toxicology reports before charging the suspect with felony DUI and other charges. Police report that the accident occurred around 11 p.m. on Fairbanks Avenue near Rollins College.
Worker Killed in Florida Construction Accident
Florida construction accident attorneys are closely monitoring developments in a recent fatal construction accident in Tallahassee. A subcontractor working on a construction project on the Florida State University campus was killed recently after being trapped between a building and a construction elevator. University police officers say that the 25-year-old victim was working on the construction of the new Dorman and Deviney Halls on campus when the accident occurred. Investigators say that the accident occurred just after 12 p.m. and that the worker had already died from his injuries when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Eustis Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Construction Zone Accident
Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that a 44-year-old man working on a pedestrian safety project was struck and killed by a truck that raced through the construction zone and fled from the scene. Troopers say that the victim was wearing bright reflective clothing and standing in front of a work truck in the 2600 block of South Florida Avenue around 2 a.m. when he was struck and fatally injured. The impact threw the man’s body 80 feet.
Worker Killed in Florida Construction Accident
A recent Florida construction accident in Jacksonville has claimed the life of one worker, who fell more than 120 feet from the roof of an aircraft hangar at Cecil Field. The victim was a 26-year-old Virginia man, who was part of a team of workers building a huge hangar at the airport. Investigating officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report that the man was attempting to move from one part of the roof to another when he momentarily disconnected his safety harness and lost his footing while trying to re-attach it. The victim’s brother was working at the site when the accident occurred and watched his brother fall to his death.
Two Workers Injured in Construction Accident at Power Plant
Two workers injured recently at a construction accident at the Florida Power & Light plant in Indiantown are being treated at local hospitals with undisclosed injuries. Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies said that the workers, a 32-year-old Zephyrhills man and a 52-year-old Sarasota man, were working on a large steel frame when it collapsed. One of the workers was reportedly working on the ground behind the frame while the other was on a ladder on the front of the structure when it collapsed.
OSHA Accuses Blue Rhino of Multiple Safety Violations after Plant Explosion
Orlando personal injury attorneys are closely monitoring developments in a plant explosion last summer that left five workers with severe burns. Workplace accident investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently accused Blue Rhino of committing numerous safety violations in connection with an explosion and fire at the company’s propane depot in Tavares last July. Ric Ridgway, a prosecutor who reviewed the State Fire Marshal’s investigation of the July 29 accident, said the accident started when a spark from a forklift ignited "a cloud of propane" behind the plant. He said that his investigation found no evidence of criminal negligence in connection with the accident.
