Two Die in 4-Car Crash in Orange County
A head-on collision that took place within Orange County on the morning of Thursday, May 23rd, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol working within the county. The incident was first reported at 10:00 in the morning along State Road 429, close to the 19th mile marker.
Shortly before the accident, a 39-year-old was driving a Land Rover southbound along State Road 429. For reasons that are not clear, this individual was not driving his car along a paved part of the road, but was instead traveling within the grass median. Witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol that at a certain point the driver of the Land Rover pulled the car out of the median and back onto the roadway. Unfortunately, they pulled their car into the northbound lanes, meaning that they were now traveling in the opposite direction of traffic.
At this same time, an Isuzu truck, being driven by a 30-year-old, was coming down the northern lanes. The two vehicles approached one another, and without either of the drivers swerving out of the way, the two vehicles collided head-on. The force of the crash caused the truck to tip over directly onto the hood of a Chevrolet Cruze being driven by a 27-year-old person from Winter Garden. A Toyota Camry, being driven by a 38-year-old from Davenport, was also involved in the crash after they were unable to avoid colliding with the side of the Land Rover.
When the Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of the incident with paramedics and EMTs, they discovered that there was nothing that they could do for the driver of the Land Rover. This individual was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Isuzu truck was badly injured in the crash, and paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, this person was also declared dead as a result of the injuries they sustained in the collision.
Neither of the drivers of the other two cars involved were injured in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation, although it is not believed that any charges are currently pending.
