Single Orlando Driver Injured in Crash with Power Pole
Early on Monday Morning, around the time that many residents of Orange County were beginning to climb into their cars and make their way to work, a man driving down Colonial Drive lost control of his vehicle and struck a power pole, causing power to over forty power customers in the area to lose power and sending live wires cascading into the street and around the car.
According to a report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 7:00 am, when the 33-year-old Orlando resident Jovaney Pagan was headed west on Colonial Drive. For reasons that the Florida Highway Patrol has yet to ascertain, Pagan lost control of his vehicle near to where Rouse Road and Colonial Drive intersect. As a result, Pagan’s vehicle crossed from Colonial Drive westbound lanes and into the eastbound ones. Still unable to regain control of the vehicle, Pagan’s car left the roadway completely, which is when he collided with the power pole.
Although the accident itself was violent, it was probably the unhooked wires that spilled out of the sky and into Pagan’s vehicle that caused the most serious of his injuries. Emergency medical crews were quick to arrive on the scene and extract Mr. Pagan from his perilous situation, but his experiences were such that the Orlando Regional Medical Center is still listing his injuries as serious and his condition as critical.
As a result of the accident, Florida State Troopers closed the eastbound lanes of Colonial Drive. While they attempt to discover the reasons behind Pagan’s dangerous accident, information relating to the incident itself is limited. So far, we know that Pagan was given a ticket for reckless driving, but more serious charges are yet to be leveled at the convalescing man. We do know that the Florida State Troopers have declared that alcohol had no role in the accident and that Pagan was wearing his seatbelt. This latter fact is important and probably points out why Pagan did not suffer even worse injuries or death as a result of the extreme impact between his car and the power pole.
