Road Ranger Injured in Orange County Accident
A series of car crashes along an Orange County stretch of State Road 417 last Tuesday morning resulted in numerous injuries, the worst of which was suffered by a Road Ranger who was hit by a car while helping the victims of two other collisions. The report, which came from the Florida Highway Patrol, indicated that the ordeal began around 9:00 in the morning with an accident between at least two cars that were traveling in the southern lanes of State Road 417.
One of the first responders to the crash was a 56-year-old Road Ranger from Montverde. He arrived and began helping the people in the cars involved. While he was doing this, a second accident happened close to the area of the first. The report did not indicate the reasons behind either the first or second collison, and it is not clear if the second crash happened because of the first one or if the two incidents were entirely unrelated.
Either way, the Road Ranger left the area with the first set of cars and went to see if those in the second set needed any help. It was while the Road Ranger was interacting with the people in the second accident that a 2013 Chevrolet came down the road. Behind the wheel of the Chevrolet was a 39-year-old Orlando resident who either did not see the Road Ranger or did not believe that the person was close enough to his vehicle to cause a problem. Unfortunately, the Road Ranger was not a safe distance away from the Chevrolet and the car struck him before he was able to leap to safety.
First responders were already either at the scene or on their way, and it is possible that this quick treatment saved the Road Ranger’s life. He was initially treated at the crash site, and then EMTs put him into an ambulance and rushed him to Osceola Regional Hospital where he immediately began receiving treatment for a broken pelvis and numerous broken ribs.
While the initial report did not comment on the condition of any of the people involved in the previous two collisions, it did mention that the driver of the Chevrolet that struck the Road Ranger was not injured. Charges are currently pending against this individual.
