Osceola County ATV Crash Kills One
An ATV accident in Osceola County has left members of the Florida Highway Patrol working to uncover some precise details that led to the death of a 58-year-old individual. What is known at this point in time is that the incident involved an all-terrain vehicle (ATV for short) that was, at the time of the incident, carrying three people. It appears that the person in charge of driving the ATV was a 9-year-old child.
Sitting behind the child were two people: a 58-year-old and a 53-year-old. The reports issued so far made sure to indicate that the relationship between the adults and the child was still unconfirmed.
It was close to 5:00 in the evening on Saturday, January 19th, when the three people climbed aboard the ATV and began to ride it along 8 Mile Ranch Road which is inside of Osceola County. This road, which is also close to Holopaw Groves Road, is classified as a private trail, although it is not clear just who owns the land and whether or not the people on the ATV had obtained permission before using it.
The ATV was traveling north down 8 Mile Ranch Road when a second ATV appeared, traveling south. It is not clear what exactly happened, but it appears as though the child attempted to pull the ATV with the three passengers off of the road and onto another trail in order to allow the second ATV to pass. While doing so, the child drove the ATV up a steep slope and lost control of the vehicle. The ATV then overturned.
The 58-year-old passenger fell off of the ATV and was unable to get up before the heavy four wheeler crashed down on top of her. It is not clear if the are where the crash took place is within cellphone range, but emergency services were contacted and soon EMTs and paramedics were rushing to the area to try and assist the gravely wounded person. Unfortunately, the severity of the incident proved insurmountable and the 58-year-old was declared dead at the scene of the crash.
The 53-year-old was also injured, although it is believed their injuries were only minor. It is not known if the 9-year-old child suffered from any injuries in the incident.
