Orlando Man Killed in Deadly Side Impact Collision
At approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon in Orange County, Florida, a fatal t-bone accident involving two vehicles occurred on State Road 417 near Mile Marker 23. Northbound lanes surrounding the collision were temporarily closed by the authorities, but were later reopened after the scene was cleared.
According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes, a 1993 Honda Civic driven by 29-year-old Jonathan Jimenez from Orlando, was travelling during rush hour along S.R. 417 in the center lane when he suddenly began driving erratically. His sedan first swerved into the right lane, then into the left, before crossing over into oncoming traffic and into the path of a 2008 Land Rover driven by Lisa Spinetti of Winter Springs, Florida.
The SUV struck the Civic on the driver’s side, causing fatal injuries to Mr. Jimenez. He was rushed from the scene of the accident to Florida Hospital East where he passed away. The other driver suffered minor injuries, as reported by the FHP. According to the accident report, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. It is unclear at this time what the initial cause of this accident was, as the investigation is currently ongoing.
T-bone accidents are some of the most dangerous collisions to occur on the road, especially if the point of impact is on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Crashes of this nature can cause serious injuries to all occupants of the vehicle, and may include:
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Concussions
- Broken Bones
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Amputations
If you have been involved in a Florida car accident, one of the first things you must do is seek immediate medical attention, even if you do not feel that it is necessary. Injuries from auto accidents, even minor fender-benders, can oftentimes manifest hours or even days after the initial collision.
