Orange County Sergeant Rear-Ends Civilian Car

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 2, 2018

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol are currently investigating a crash that involved a sergeant working with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. It appears that the incident, which happened on Sunday, July 1st, took place as the sergeant was driving an SUV down State Road 408.

The report did not indicate if the SUV being driven by the sergeant was part of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s fleet of vehicles or if the sergeant was behind the wheel of a private car at the time, but we do know that it was as they were nearing a toll plaza close to the intersection of State Road 408 and Pine Hills Road that the the sergeant began to close in on the car directly in front of them.

It is not clear why the sergeant was not looking at the road when the incident occurred (especially as it is part of their job to make sure that people are paying attention when behind the wheel of a car), but the reports indicated that as the sergeant closed in on the toll booth they failed to slow their car down and instead collided violently with the vehicle in front of them.

The car before the sergeant was attempting to pull off to the road’s shoulder for reasons that were not included in the initial report. The driver of this car had begun to slow their vehicle down when the SUV driven by the sergeant slammed into their trunk. The force of the collision knocked the sergeant unconscious and caused their SUV to ignite into flames.

Fortunately for the police officer, people were nearby who rushed to the scene and pulled him from the burning car. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital where it is believed that he is recovering from his injuries.

The driver of the car struck by the sergeant was not taken to a hospital; however, when reporters went to the individual’s home to speak to them the person was not available. According to their son who answered the door, the man was resting after the incident and that he was experiencing some pain in his head. It is not clear if this person received any medical attention after the incident.
