FHP Investigates Single-Vehicle Crash and Fatality in Lake County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 6, 2020

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol within Lake County are currently working to discover what caused a motorcyclist to crash on the night of Monday, May 4th, an incident that resulted in the biker sustaining fatal injuries. According to the preliminary reports around the issue, the accident is believed to have taken place sometime after 6:40 in the morning. The location of the incident is confirmed as being along County Road 445, close to the intersection of this road and State Road 19, just south of Camp Ocala.

It is not known who first reported on the incident, but it is believed that the crash was discovered by someone shortly after it took place. Police and other emergency medical personnel then rushed to the scene to offer medical help to any survivors and to begin a preliminary investigation into the accident itself.

When the authorities arrived, they found that the motorcyclist had sustained extremely severe injuries. This individual was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

According to the accident reconstruction of events, the police believe that the biker was riding down the eastern lanes of County Road 445 when they lost control of the vehicle. It is not currently known why the biker lost control of the bike, an issue that remains one of the focal points of the investigation.

After leaving the roadway, the biker was not able to regain control of the vehicle before it collided with a culvert standing alongside the road. This collision caused the biker to fly off of the bike and through the air before landing heavily in a line of trees. The reports did not indicate whether or not the biker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, a bit of information which seems crucial in a case such as this one.

Due to reasons that are not currently clear, the authorities first believed that the crash had taken place the night before, sometime around 9:30 at night. It is not known what caused this initial belief nor what ultimately resulted in it changing.

The investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing. It is not currently clear if any other vehicles are suspected as having been involved in the incident.
