Driver Loses Control in Miami Parking Lot, Lands On Top of Two Parked Vehicles
According to local news reports, Trenia Robinson was sitting in her car with her godson waiting for her order from Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen to be filled. While waiting she recalls hearing the squeal of what sounded like car brakes, followed by a loud crunch. In hindsight, that loud crunch was the sound of an airborne white sedan landing on top of her car and the one parked next to her.
The sedan trapped Robinson and her godson in their vehicle, forcing them to be squeezed out through a window with the help of several bystanders who witnessed the accident. Robinson and her godson are lucky to have been able to walk away from the accident without serious injury.
Based on initial police reports, the driver of the white sedan had lost control of their vehicle while driving in the fast food restaurant’s parking lot, located on Military Trail just west of Miami. Both Robinson and her godson were taken to the hospital, along with five other people. According to the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, none of the injuries seem to be life-threatening. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident and has not ruled out the possibility of the driver being cited.
Although the incident is still under investigation, it is highly unlikely that the driver of the white sedan is not at fault. In order to be able to cause a car of that size to go airborne – in a parking lot – it seems logical to assume they were a) driving at a high speed and b) in a reckless manner. As a result, he or she will be liable for the damage they caused both to the other people and to the surrounding vehicles. As such, both Trenia Robinson and her grandson have the legal right to seek compensation for the damages sustained as a result of the driver’s negligent and/or reckless driving. These damages can include, but are not limited to: damage to the vehicle, medical treatment, future medical treatment, loss of income, future loss of income and, in some case, emotional distress.
