Uptick in Orlando Commuters Leads to Rise in Interstate 4 Auto Accidents
Orlando, Florida is home to one of the greatest vacation destinations in the United States, and perhaps the entire world. (Think “Happiest Place on Earth”). But over the past few years, the amount of people who aren’t just seeing the sights, but taking up residency in the great Sunshine State has increased dramatically and people are noticing.
Commuters in Polk County and the surrounding areas have been experiencing increasing traffic nightmares, headaches, and frustrations along Interstate 4 due to the growing amount of people driving to the greater Orlando area for work each week.
Statistics from the Florida Department of Transportation show a sixty-eight percent increase in traffic volume along the I-4 corridor from 2000-2015, the last year to be recorded. In an attempt to alleviate congestion, additional lanes were added to I-4 in 2006 to an area of the interstate that was already seeing a 12% increase in traffic.
As the amount of drivers on the road continues to increase year after year, so do the amount of auto accidents and injuries, unfortunately. According to the statistics gathered by the Florida Highway Patrol, the number of car crashes on Interstate 4 has nearly doubled between 2011-2016, jumping from 695 to 1,195, respectively. The total number of injuries from these accidents during that 5-year time span is 548.
If you have been injured in an accident, the first thing you should always do is seek immediate medical attention, even if you believe your injuries are minor.
There are many different types of injuries that victims are afflicted with during an interstate accident, including:
- Whiplash
- Concussions
- Amputations
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Broken Bones
- …and more.
Types of Interstate 4 collisions include, but are not limited to:
- Guardrail Accidents
- Trucking Accidents
- Rear-End Collisions
- Wrong-Way Accidents
- Motorcycle Accidents
- …and more.
