Two-Car Collision on Osceola Parkway Leaves 86-Year-Old Dead
In Osceola County on Tuesday an automobile accident took place between an 86-year-old man from Ohio and a 22-year-old man from Kissimmee along Storey Lake Road and Osceola Parkway. The report issued by State Trooper Steven Montiero describes how the accident took place and gives out all the information that is currently held by the authorities.
According to the report, Robert Amstadt, the 86-year-old, was behind the wheel of a 2017 Ford Escape in the northbound lane of Storey Lake Road shortly after 2:00 in the afternoon. As he neared the famed Animal Kingdom, a member of the Disney resort group, Amstadt slowed down as he prepared to turn on to the Osceola Parkway. What happens next is clear in result, although the reasons behind certain actions is not understood. Trooper Montiero says that Amstadt began to turn on to Osceola Parkway, but for whatever reason was not aware or confused about the presence of another car: a Nissan sedan that was being driven down Osceola Parkway at this moment by the 22-year-old Kevin Cruz.
Driving in the eastbound lane of the Osceola Parkway, Cruz was unexpectedly tasked with avoiding Amstadt’s Ford Escape as Amstadt attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the Osceola Parkway and navigate to the westbound lanes. Unable to maneuver around the Escape in time, Cruz’s Nissan collided with the Escape’s left side. Emergency response crews arrived quickly on the scene and began to extricate the two injured men from the wreckage of their cars. Both were taken to hospitals.
Robert Amstadt, taken to the Osceola Regional Hospital, suffered injuries too severe for his body to handle. After being tended to by the doctors, Amstadt was declared dead. Cruz was transported to Celebration Hospital with injuries that the medical professionals are deeming serious. It is not clear just what his condition is at this time, although updates to this story will be released as it develops. The crash is still under investigation by the State Troopers and the Florida Highway Patrol.
