Teenager Killed in Head-On Collision in Orange County
A community is grieving today as investigative authorities operating within Orange County are continuing their attempt to piece together a series of unfortunate events which caused a deadly head-on collision and the subsequent death of a 17-year-old teenager from Eustis early Wednesday morning in Apopka.
Preliminary collision reports from multiple Orange County law enforcement agencies indicate that the first 9-1-1 calls regarding a pickup truck vs. SUV accident began flooding dispatchers at approximately 6:55 a.m. on April 28th, 2021. As officers approached the intersection of Boch Road and Plymouth Sorrento Road, they discovered a white pickup truck and a grey SUV – both of which were badly mangled with serious front-end damage. Upon further inspection of the crash site, emergency responders found that the SUV’s driver, a 17-year-old female from Eustis, had sustained severe, life-threatening injuries in the auto accident. She was immediately transported to AdventHealth Apopka, but was sadly unable to survive her injuries and she passed away shortly after arriving at the medical facility. The pickup truck’s driver, a 47-year-old man from Sorrento, was also taken to AdventHealth Apopka although he only suffered minor injuries in the crash. Both accident victims were wearing their seatbelts when the collision occurred.
At the time of this writing, the Apopka Police Department and additional Orange County detectives have reason to believe that the 47-year-old pickup truck driver was travelling in the southbound direction along Plymouth Sorrento Road when he veered into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with the teenager’s sport utility vehicle on the northbound side of the roadway.
Since the investigation is still in its early stages, it’s currently unknown if the 47-year-old will face any legal consequences stemming from this car accident. It is entirely possible that he suffered some sort of medical episode while driving, or that his vehicle sustained a mechanical malfunction that caused him to be unable to control the truck properly. These details will undoubtedly be discovered as authorities continue to explore all avenues of this truly tragic case.
