T-Bone Crash Near Tampa Results in Injuries and Death

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 17, 2019

On the last day of May, an accident took place along the eastern lanes of State Road 54 in Pasco County, close to the city of Tampa, that resulted in numerous injuries. A little more than a week after the side-impact collision took place, one of those involved died as a result of the injuries they sustained. What we know so far is that the accident involved several cars and numerous people. While all of the individuals involved suffered injuries as a result, it is believed that only one person’s injuries were particularly severe. This individual is the one who later died.

It was close to 7:00 in the evening when a 62-year-old Hudson resident attempted to turn off of State Road 54 and onto Starkey Boulevard. The 62-year-old was driving a 2016 Ford Focus. Sitting in the passenger seat of the Focus was another 62-year-old, also a resident of Hudson.

In order to access Starkey Boulevard, the driver of the Focus had to turn their car across the western lanes of State Road 54. At the time that they made the turn, the driver of the Focus had the right-of-way above all cars traveling along the rest of the road. In particular, we know that the light governing the intersection was showing red for those traveling along the western lane of State Road 54.

At the same time that the driver of the Focus attempted to make the turn off of State Road 54 and onto Starkey Boulevard, a 32-year-old from New Port Richey driving a 2007 Audi was headed down the western lanes of State Road 54. When they reached the intersection, they either failed to see the red light or believed that they still had time to make it through before any other traffic began to cross their path.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. The Audi struck the front passenger side of the Focus, inflicting minor injuries on the two drivers and severe injuries on the passenger in the Focus. The police who responded to the scene rushed the 62-year-old Focus passenger to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson. It is believed that the individual was still at this medical center when they were declared dead, around a week later.
