T-Bone Crash Near Tampa Results in Fatality and Injuries

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 31, 2019

On Thursday, July 28th, a couple from Riverview were inside a 2012 Nissan Maxima that was traveling down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street when this car became involved in a side-impact collision. Reports from the St. Petersburg Police indicated that it was sometime close to 5:30 in the evening, during the rush hour traffic that can often become quite intense in this area. It is believed that the two people inside of the Nissan were a married couple. Behind the wheel was a 44-year-old man and in the passenger seat was a 59-year-old woman.

It was at the above-mentioned time that the Maxima neared the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and 110th Avenue North and the driver of the Maxima attempted to make a turn out of his lane of travel and onto 110th Avenue North. Doing this required the Maxima to cross over the opposite lanes of travel. It was not clear in the initial report whether or not the intersection featured a stop light or if it is the drivers alone who are responsible for ensuring that there are no traffic impediments when attempting to make turns in this area.

It is also not clear if the driver of the Nissan saw the Infiniti G 35 coming and believed they could outrun the other vehicle or if they simply failed to examine the area thoroughly to ensure that it was clear of oncoming traffic.

Regardless, while the Maxima was making the turn across Dr. MLK Street the Infiniti reached the area at the same time and the two cars collided with one another. The Maxima was forced off of the roadway and into a nearby drainage ditch that was partially filled with water. Once it crashed into the ditch it also rolled over.

Emergency response crews rushed to the area and began to treat individuals from both vehicles who had been injured as a result of the crash. The 59-year-old passenger in the Maxima was declared dead at the scene while the drivers of both the Nissan and Infiniti were transported to nearby hospitals where they received treatment for serious injuries. It is not known if any charges are currently pending in this case.
