Speeding Crash Near Tampa Results in Fatalities
Members of the Tampa Police Department were among officials on hand during the week of Monday, November 18th, to make sure that people traveling down K-Bar Ranch Parkway inside of New Tampa were obeying all posted speed limit signs. The reason for the sudden influx of police officers in the area relates to an incident that took place on that Monday when several teenagers were killed after the car in which they were traveling left the roadway and crashed along the shoulder. An initial investigation into the fatal auto accident determined that speed was the primary contributing factor to the crash.
The reports from officials stated that the incident was reported after the accident took place, but that witnesses told officers that the car had been seen traveling far above the posted limit. Cars traveling through this area are told to travel at a speed of 35 miles per hour, but stories shared by residents and reports from police with the Tampa Police Department indicated that the actual speeds of individuals traveling along this particular stretch of road often reaches up to 55 miles per hour.
The reasons behind this are open to speculation, but the general consensus by residents and police is that the uptick in fast drivers came at the same time as a number of new buildings and homes were constructed. It seems that theory connects the fast drivers to the new occupants of these homes and the increased traffic to the new businesses. While this theory does resonate for many individuals living in the area, it has yet to become anything other than speculation.
Many people consider the incident which took place towards the middle of November and cost the lives of the two teenagers to be a direct result of the new constructions. It is also a fact that neither of the teenagers in the car were wearing seat belts. This meant that when the car crashed, there was nothing to help prevent the young people from being thrown from the vehicle or from being slammed around the inside of the car’s cabin.
It is not known what authorities plan to do in order to make this roadway safer for individuals and motorists.
