Single Fatality After Car Rolls and Crashes into Ocala Tree
A collision between a car and a tree in Ocala on the night of Thursday, May 7th, resulted in the death of a 55-year-old man and an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol into the reasons behind the crash. We know so far that the fatal car crash was first reported at around 11:00 p.m. The call that reached the dispatcher at this time indicated that an incident had occurred along Southwest 62nd Avenue in Ocala. It is not clear how much the caller told the authorities about what had happened, but when the police and other emergency response crews reached the areas they found a single vehicle that had crashed after the driver presumably lost control of the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation managed a reconstruction of the events as follows:
Around the time mentioned above, the 55-year-old was behind the wheel of a car and traveling down Southwest 62nd Avenue Road within the City of Ocala. As the car approached a curve in the road, the driver apparently failed to navigate the change properly. The reasons behind this remain unclear, but we do know that the driver then lost control of the vehicle, departed from the roadway, and began to travel along the road’s grass shoulder before crashing into a chain link fence.
After striking the fence, the car was still traveling at a fairly high rate of speed, and continued to progress along the grass. The collision with the fence also destabilized the vehicle, resulting in the car overturning. It is not clear if the car rolled over and, if so, how many times it rolled. We do know that the car’s trajectory was ultimately stopped when it collided with a large tree standing near to where the car burst through the fence.
When the authorities arrived, it is believed that the driver of the car was still alive. Paramedics with the Marion County Fire Rescue began to treat the man, trying to stabilize them before transportation to a nearby hospital, but the force of the crash and the injuries the driver sustained were simply too severe for stabilization. The emergency crews declared the driver dead at the scene of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation while authorities work to discover what caused the driver to lose control of their vehicle.
