Sanford Resident Killed in Seminole County Car Crash on I-4
Early investigations by the local authorities in Seminole County have reported that a 53-year-old man has been killed in an auto accident along Interstate 4 close to the Lake Mary Boulevard entrance ramp at approximately 2:45 p.m. on February 22nd, 2021, according to a statement by Lt. Kim Montes with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Seminole County recall receiving a 9-1-1 call regarding the potentially fatal car crash Monday afternoon shortly before the area’s afternoon commuters started to head home from work. Officers indicate that a 61-year-old female resident of Longwood was driving her SUV down the Lake Mary Boulevard exit ramp and as she entered the heavy interstate traffic, she suddenly swerved her vehicle into the westernmost lane of Interstate 4 and into the path of an oncoming sedan. The driver of the sedan, 53-year-old man from Sanford, was unable to avoid a collision with the SUV and crashed into the left side of the vehicle.
Seminole County emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene of the deadly crash and found that both drivers were suffering from serious injuries. The 53-year-old was transported to South Seminole Hospital where doctors did everything in their power to save the man’s life, however, his injuries proved to be too severe for him to survive and he passed away shortly upon arrival. It is unclear at this time which hospital the other driver was taken to or what her condition currently is.
In accidents such as these, there are many factors that could have caused the driver of the SUV to lose control of her vehicle. It’s quite possible that she suffered some sort of medical episode that took her attention away from the roadway or that a mechanical malfunction from the vehicle itself occurred. Of course, on the other hand, it is also possible that she was distracted by a text message or phone call or was under the influence of alcohol or drugs while behind the wheel. The truth will undoubtedly unfold and present itself once this case comes to a conclusion.
