Pedestrian Killed in Center of I-95 in Flagler County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 14, 2020

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol are working to discover just what happened in Flagler County during the morning of Friday, April 10th, to cause a fatal crash that involved a pedestrian. According to the reports currently available, the incident took place close to 6:30 in the morning, close to mile marker 282 on Interstate 95. While many of the details surrounding the incident remain either unknown or unavailable to the public, the preliminary reports did provide us with numerous facts relating to the case.

At the time in question, a pedestrian was walking along I-95 within Flagler County. It is not clear where this pedestrian was coming from, and the reports also declined to speculate on where this pedestrian might be headed. We do know that at a certain point, the pedestrian decided to leave the highway’s shoulder and begin walking across the busy street on foot.

At this same time, a 75-year-old New York resident was behind the wheel of a 2000 Mercedes with a 73-year-old passenger seated beside him. It was as the pedestrian left the shoulder of the highway and began to cross that the Mercedes reached the same location. For reasons that are not clear, the driver of the Mercedes apparently failed to notice the person on foot within the highway. For their own part, the pedestrian also apparently failed to notice the onrush of cars headed down I-95 at this time.

The driver of the Mercedes struck the pedestrian with their car, causing the individual to suffer severe injuries. It is not clear who called the emergency response crews, but they rushed to the area in question to begin tending to the badly injured pedestrian shortly after the accident took place. It is believed that the driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene during the entire preliminary investigation and cooperated with the authorities throughout this time.

Paramedics and EMTs did their best to tend to the injuries suffered by the person on foot, but their efforts were not enough to save the individual and they were declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Neither the driver of the Mercedes nor their passenger were injured in the crash.
