One Person Airlifted to Hospital After Collision on Merritt Island

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 1, 2019

A crash involving a dump truck and a tractor-trailer carrying gravel caused massive traffic snarls along State Road 528 in Brevard County as well as an oil spill that required the attention of special emergency units trained in cleaning this time of hazardous material. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol place the time of the accident at close to 9:00 in the morning Monday, October 28th. These reports state that the accident involved at least one of the two trucks mentioned above, but there was no indication whether or not other vehicles were involved.

Most notably absent from the initial reports were the details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident itself. While we know approximately what time the crash took place as well as its location near mile marker 47 inside of Merritt Island, we do not know if the crash was prompted by a vehicle running a red light, suddenly changing lanes, the driver swerved to avoid something within the road, a medical emergency, distracted driving, drunken driving, or any of the numerous other scenarios that can lead to a collision between vehicles.

After the crash took place, emergency response crews were notified and began to immediately rush to the area. It is not known who placed the initial call into the emergency response crews or whether or not the accident was witnessed by a member of the Florida Highway Patrol or some other emergency response agency, but after the initial call reached the appropriate emergency personnel there were numerous units from various emergency teams rushing to the area.

Included in this rush were paramedics and EMTs, who reportedly treated at least one person involved in the crash for injuries. While the extent of the injuries sustained by this individual is not known, the reports did state that they were air-lifted from the area to a nearby hospital. At the time of this writing, the condition of the individual who was evacuated is not entirely clear. No charges are currently pending regarding this circumstance, and the authorities are continuing to try and discover just what took place to cause such a large-scale crash.
