Moderate Injuries after Tesla Crashes in Tampa
A single car crash that took place in Tampa on the night of Thursday, July 11th, resulted in a large car-fire. At the time of this writing, the reasons behind the incident remain under investigation, although it is worth noting that the car involved was a Tesla Model X. Reports from an independent website that tracks incidents involving electric cars claims that pictures from the scene prove that the issue was not with the car’s lithium-ion battery, however the official investigation has yet to prove or disprove that theory. What we know at this time comes from reports first made by the Tampa Police Department, members of whom responded to the scene in period of time following the frightening crash.
According to the Tampa Police Department, they first received calls relating to the accident at some point during the night on Thursday. News pieces on the incident failed to state the time at which the crash took place, but it is believed that they were before midnight, but after the sun had set. Pictures from the scene show a blazing vehicle surrounded by the thick dark of a Tampa night.
Only one person is believed to have been in the car at the time of the crash, although it is not clear if this person was the one who called the police relating to the accident. This individual, the car’s driver, was piloting the vehicle down North Dale Mabry Highway, close to the intersection of West Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, when something happened to cause them to either lose control of the vehicle or have that control taken from them. What we know for certain is that in the following moments this driver was not able to regain control over the car and soon the vehicle and the driver crashed heavily into the side of the road.
In the moments following the crash, the car erupted in flames. Fortunately, the driver was able to escape. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries, but the reports stated that was believed that none of these injuries were at all life-threatening. It is believed that the driver of the Tesla was alone at the time of the crash.
