Miami Police Officer Hospitalized after Morning Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 11, 2017

An accident between a 26-year-old Miami police officer and a 47-year-old civilian has sent the two individuals to the hospital. According to the spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, Kenia Fallat, the accident took place around 4:30 on Monday morning at an intersection that has not yet been identified. The official statement indicates that the officer, Carlos Gomez, has only been with the Miami Police Department for a year. Shortly before the accident took place, Officer Gomez received a priority call directing him to the scene of another emergency. It was while he was speeding towards his destination that the accident took place.

Most of the concrete details relating to this specific case remain in the shadows. We do know that the accident took place at an intersection, but it is not clear precisely which Miami intersection. We also know that the collision caused Gomez’s car to be slammed against a building, which subsequently resulted in him being trapped in the vehicle. When the emergency response teams arrived, they found Gomez unconscious. When they finally freed him from the mangled car, they found that he was suffering from serious injuries to his legs and head.

The other driver, Julio Jimenez, was also injured in the crash, although his injuries are not believed to be as critical as Officer Gomez’s. Currently, it is thought that Jimenez received a broken leg during the incident.

This accident is currently still under investigation as the Miami Police Department seeks out potential witnesses in an attempt to piece together just what took place to cause such a violent collision between the two automobiles. As a part of the inquiry, it is likely that both drug and alcohol tests will be administered. Currently, however, no charges have been filed against either of the individuals involved in the crash.

When more information becomes available relating to the condition of the injured officer and the circumstances that led to the accident in the first place, it will be released through the traditional news channels. Until that time, it is too early to begin crafting hypothesis as to what occurred to injure these two individuals.
