Garbage Truck Involved in Deadly Port Charlotte Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a garbage truck was involved in a fatal Port Charlotte car accident that shut down parts of Kings Highway. Thirty two year old William Frederick of Punta Gorda was killed after, per reports by the Florida Highway Patrol, he was ‘speeding down the single northbound lane of Loveland Boulevard’.
The accident happened around 5:00 pm near Moses Court. A speeding Frederick drove his dark Ford Mustang through a puddle and into the grass shoulder of the road before it began to spin out. The spinning Mustang then went into the single southbound lane, directly in the path of an oncoming Waste Management garbage truck. According to the police report, the garbage truck driver says he attempted to pump his brakes and steer away from the spinning Mustang but the two vehicles still crashed. Upon impact, the garbage truck crashed into a row of trees just off the side of the road.
Coroners pronounced Frederick dead at the scene.
Regardless of the cause of a car accident, if you or a loved one are ever in the unfortunate situation as the driver of the garbage truck in the above scenario – having suffered from injuries in a motor vehicle accident – you do have options. First and foremost, you should always seek immediate medical treatment. Even if you ‘feel fine’ or ‘only suffered’ from bumps and bruises, always go to a doctor. Many times more serious injuries won’t manifest for days – or even weeks. Without an official doctor’s report, it could be difficult for you to make the claim that these injuries are related to the car accident. And remember, although you have a legal right to compensation for your injuries, this right only extends to those injuries caused by the car accident itself. If there’s no medical proof that a neck injury that developed weeks after the car accident was caused by the accident, you will not be compensated.
To ensure you receive the full compensation you deserve for your injuries, always seek the professional advice of an experienced Florida personal injury attorney. To schedule your free initial consultation, call the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, P.A. today.
