Fatal Single Car Crash in Tampa

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 17, 2020

A morning crash on Friday, May 8th, within the City of Tampa remains under investigation while members of the Florida Highway Patrol work to uncover the reasons behind the single-vehicle accident. Much of the information relating to the incident remains unknown and pending the results of the investigation, however the Florida Highway Patrol did release some preliminary findings relating to the accident. These include the information that the driver of the car in question was a 21-year-old who was traveling in their vehicle down Interstate 4, close to the exit off of I-4 to U.S. 301 at around 9:00 on the morning in question.

It is believed that the driver was alone in the car at the time of the crash, although this has yet to be confirmed by the authorities. We do not currently know if the incident had any witnesses or if the crash happened without anyone seeing the specific events leading to it.

The crash itself took place after the driver apparently lost control of the car while nearing the U.S. 301 exit. Before they were able to regain control of the vehicle, they left the roadway and collided with a pole standing along the shoulder of the highway. The pole was in place to hold up a large sign of an unknown nature.

Due to the force of the impact between the car and the pole, the driver of the vehicle suffered severe injuries. It is not clear if they were alive when the emergency medical teams reached the crash site, but we do know that the EMTs and paramedics were ultimately unable to do anything in order to save the driver and they were declared dead at the scene.

It is believed that at the time of this writing, no information regarding the victim’s identity has been released. The FHP reports that they are waiting to offer more details regarding the deceased and the event itself until the next of kin are notified.

While this takes place, an investigation into the accident remains ongoing, but no further updates to its status have yet reached the ears of the public.
