Driver and Passenger Flee After Crashing Car into Cocoa Home
When an auto accident involving cars takes place, it usually occurs on the road or off to the side. If objects other than cars are involved, they are usually trees, utility poles, or fences. Sometimes, however, a driver will lose control or become otherwise incapable of operating their car while traveling through residential areas. In these cases, mailboxes, culverts, and houses suddenly become obstacles towards which a stray car or truck might careen. This is precisely what occurred during the day on Saturday, April 11th, when the driver of a white Dodge Charger was heading down Cambridge Drive.
Most of the information relating to the incident remains unknown or under investigation. At the time of this writing, what we have comes courtesy of the Cocoa Police Department, one of the numerous responders to the emergency calls relating to the crash. According to their reports and pictures taken at the scene of the accident, two individuals were inside of the Charger at the time of the crash. It is not known if any other vehicles or people were involved, and it is not clear what exactly happened to cause the driver to suddenly swerve off of the roadway and towards the single-story home located along Cambridge Drive.
Photos from the scene show the charger hanging halfway out of a large window along the side of the home. It is not believed that anyone within the building or inside of the car was injured as a result of the crash.
Following the collision with the home, both the driver and passenger within the Charger opened their doors and fled. It is not known where the two were headed at the time of the accident, and it is also not known where they were going when they ran away on foot. Regardless, authorities easily caught up with at least one of the fleeing individuals. This person, believed to be the driver of the car, was arrested. It is not clear if police believe anything such as alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed played a role in the incident.
Charges against the driver of the Charger are pending.
