Crash Between Osceola Deputy and Civilian Leaves One Dead
A deputy with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is allegedly responsible for an accident that caused the death of a 34-year-old man from Clermont. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the incident happen close to Walt Disney World and involved four cars: a cruiser with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and a pickup truck were the primary vehicles.
Sgt. Montes, the spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol, stated that the incident took place along U.S. Highway 192, either at or near to where Lindfields Boulevard intersects with this road. This area is also close to Kissimmee, although it is believed that the crash itself happened within Osceola County.
It was just before 8:15 in the morning when a handful of cars had stopped at the intersection of U.S. Highway 192 and Lindfields Boulevard. The officer, a 29-year-old Kissimmee resident, approached this line of cars and, apparently not aware that the traffic had halted, collided with the rear end of a 2013 Ford pickup truck. This collision caused the Ford to crash into two other cars.
As a result of the first collision and the subsequent two crashes, the driver of the Ford sustained severe injuries. Medical teams were called in by the responding emergency crews, and the decision was made to airlift this person from the location of the crash to Osceola Regional Medical Center. There, a team of nurses and doctors worked to save the life of the individual. Unfortunately, their injures were ultimately too severe for treatment and they were declared dead.
The Osceola County sheriff’s deputy suffered from only minor injuries in the crash and they were taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment. It is believed that they were released after a brief period of observation and treatment.
None of the other individuals involved were injured in the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the officer behind the wheel of the police cruiser was placed on administrative leave while the authorities investigate the accident in question. While the outcome of the investigation is not yet known, a statement from the sheriff of Osceola County did indicate that the department was taking the situation seriously.
