Car Crashes into Orlando Home’s Garage, One Injured
A homeowner in Orlando was rudely awakened early on Monday morning to a loud crashing sound coming from the garage. When they went to investigate, they found a car, not their own, protruding from the carport and, inside, a bewildered elderly woman and an injured younger woman. Members of the Florida Highway Patrol have issued a statement regarding the crash which discusses the known facts of the case.
In this statement, it is said that Perez, a 60-year-old Orlando resident, was behind the wheel of her Infiniti G37 at close to 5:15 in the morning when she turned on to the northbound lanes of Pica Street. Beside her in the car was a 22-year-old Kissimmee woman who has yet to be named. The Florida Highway Patrol has yet to state exactly why the following incident occurred, but it is believed that Perez fell asleep at the wheel of the Infiniti while driving down Pica Street.
The car veered off of the road, ran over a mailbox, and then crashed into the garage of the home located on Crosshair Circle, which is where the homeowner and the police found it. Both Perez and her passenger were still at the scene of the accident when the authorities arrived. The Florida Highway Patrol’s statement indicated that Perez was not injured in the incident, but her passenger suffered from some minor injuries and was taken via ambulance to the Osceola Regional Hospital. It is not known whether or not she is currently in the hospital or if she was released following medical attention.
As of this writing, the investigating officers have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor for causing the accident. It is not clear if this means they also do not believe any other illicit drugs played a role in the incident. If so, then it is possible that the crash occurred simply as a result of a too-sleepy driver, and that the subsequent property damage and minor injuries are due to a lack of proper sleep.
The report concluded by mentioning that none of the residents of the home were injured in the incident.
