Blown Tire Leads to Death Near Tampa
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol in Hillsborough County are officially declaring a blown tire to be behind the death of an individual on Friday, March 29th. According to the trooper’s reports, it was close to 4:30 in the afternoon when a 43-year-old man from Lutz was driving a 1999 Isuzu Trooper down the northern lanes of Interstate 75. The area where the man was driving was located on a stretch of I-75 that is located north of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, within Hillsborough County.
While the 43-year-old was driving, something happened to cause one of the tires on the car to blow out. The reports from the Florida Highway Patrol did not indicate which of the tires blew out on the individuals car, but it does seem clear that the force of the blowout caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. In the following moments, the car departed from the roadway and began to run along I-75’s outside shoulder. Attempting to correct the car’s trajectory, the driver jerked the wheel towards the other side of the road. As is often the case in these sorts of situations, the driver mishandled this correction and, in fact, overcorrected the course of their vehicle.
While the car was pulling back onto the roadway, it began to rotate too far and overturn. The driver was not able to adjust the car’s movements, and soon the car was rolling over. It is not clear if the car rolled across the roadway, but given the fact that the entire northern lanes of I-75 were closed for a period of time following the incident it seems possible that the debris from the accident were widely scattered.
It is not known who called 9-1-1, but shortly after the single-car crash there were numerous response crews that rushed to the scene in order to tend to the badly injured individual. It is not clear if the driver of the Isuzu was alive when the emergency response crews reached the scene, but we do know that the injuries they received as the car rolled were fatal and that they were declared dead sometime after being reached by paramedics and EMTs.
