Accident Filled Memorial Day in Central Florida
It was another accident filled Memorial Day in Central Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), four people were killed in three separate Orlando car accidents on Monday.
The first happened at approximately 12:30 am in the northbound lanes of State Road 417 and University Boulevard. This two vehicle crash killed a 20 year old female Orlando native and a 53 year old female from Lakeland. Three others were also reported injured, including a 10 year old boy. The boy was taken to nearby Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he is remains in stable condition.
The crash happened when the 20 year old female driver traveling south on SR 417 lost control of her Mitsubishi Lancer, at which point it veered into the northbound lanes and crashed head on into the 53 year old’s Dodge Durango.
The second accident happened later Monday morning on Colonial Drive at the intersection with Old Cheney Road. This crash left a 47 year old man dead after he lost control, left the road and hit a light pole dead on. According to FHP, no brake marks were found on the street, suggesting that the driver failed to slow down.
Meanwhile, a third crash involving two vehicles that happened in Osceola County at US 192 and Griffin Road left one person dead. This accident remains under investigation.
From what we know, all of these three accidents involved a negligent driver causing damage – or death – to other people and property. As a result, those who were injured or had their property damaged can seek compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit with the Florida courts. In the case of the victim who was killed, her surviving family may be able to seek compensation for their loss by filing a Florida wrongful death action against the 20 year old female’s estate.
