Tree Falls on SUV in Jacksonville, Kills Both Occupants
Authorities within the city of Jacksonville are still working to unearth just what happened to cause a fatal accident that took place within the city limits on Thursday, July 3rd. Regardless of the investigation’s discoveries, the incident in question is already undoubtedly one of the stranger things to have happened to motorists within Florida. While one can anticipate alligators and octogenarians on golf carts, it is less common for a tree itself to suddenly fall into the roadway.
However, by all accounts this is precisely what took place on July 3rd.
It was close to noon on the Thursday in question when an SUV carrying at least two people was traveling towards the intersection of Lem Turner Road and Braddock Road, close to the Jacksonville International Airport on the north side of the city. Within the vehicle was a 37-year-old math teacher with the West Nassau High School and her father, an individual who was not named but is believed to have been 68-years-old.
As they drew close to the intersection mentioned above, one of the trees located along the side of the road suddenly fell. In a horrible coincidence, the moment that the tree fell was also the exact moment at which the woman and her father were driving beneath it. This means that the tree fell directly on top of the SUV while it was still traveling at a fairly advanced rate of speed. Because there was no way for the driver of the SUV to have known that a tree would be falling in the area, there was no way for them to prepare themselves for the incident.
There were several cars traveling behind the impacted SUV, and the occupants of these cars witnessed the incident first hand. Several of these individuals placed emergency 9-1-1 calls and the police and paramedics rushed to the area in order to try and treat the badly injured individuals within the SUV. Sadly, when they arrived there was nothing that could be done for the two within the vehicle. Both were declared dead at the scene of the incident. It is not believed that any other people were within the SUV.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
