Two Semis, One Car Involved in St. Johns County Crash
Tuesday evening, close to the World Golf Village in St. Johns County, Florida, several vehicles were involved in an accident that caused the far right lanes of I-95 to be closed for over two hours. According to the Florida Highway Report, the accident took place around 7:00 in the evening on I-95, at the International Golf Parkway. Although the precise incidents that led to the accident are not yet known, it has been publicly announced that when the emergency response vehicles arrived they discovered two semi trucks and a third car all suffering from various damages.
The Florida Highway Patrol has said that, whatever the reason behind the accident, it was forceful enough to cause both a semi cab and a tractor-trailer to fall on their sides. The third car, which has yet to be described in any fashion, was reported to be damaged somewhere behind the two trucks.
Emergency crews that responded to the scene were required to physically extract several individuals from one vehicle in particular. It is not known whether the vehicle in question was one of the semis or the car. Furthermore, it is not known whether or not the individuals who were removed from this badly damaged vehicle were then taken to the hospital and, if so, what their condition was at the time of their admittance.
Currently, the Florida Highway Patrol as well as some local law enforcement agencies are still going over the information of the case to try and ascertain exactly what took place on Tuesday to cause this accident.
Collisions between trucks and cars are not infrequent and often deadly. Because a truck possess far greater force and heft, the impact between it and a car will often leave the car, and the individuals inside of the car, in much worse condition than the individual or individuals inside the cab of the truck. Because of the great discrepancy between the mass of a truck and the mass of a car, it is vital that the people behind the wheels of the trucks are at all times aware of the road and their surroundings. For the drivers of the cars, the responsibility lies in treating the trucks with caution and understanding that these large vehicles are unable to stop or turn as quickly as other road vehicles.
It is only by sharing the responsibility entailed in being a responsible driver that those behind the wheels of cars and those behind the wheels of trucks will ensure that Florida’s highways are safe for all travelers.
