Semi-Truck Driver Injured After Truck Overturns in Polk County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 2, 2020

A semi-truck crash that happened during the middle of April in Polk County resulted in numerous first responders rushing to a stretch of Interstate 4 in order to help clear the road, reroute traffic, and offer medical attention to those who suffered from injuries. Reports around the incident remain somewhat incomplete, however it seems clear that the incident happened sometime around 10:00 on the morning of Wednesday, April 22nd.

While people throughout the world were celebrating Earth Day within their quarantine, a tractor-trailer was traveling down Interstate 4 to an unknown destination. The driver, a 45-year-old, was driving the massive vehicle down the highway’s western lanes when something happened to cause the individual to temporarily lose control of the steering wheel.

Witnesses told the authorities that the truck drifted off of the main roadway and began to travel along the outside shoulder. It is not clear at this point whether this shoulder was paved or if the tires on the heavy truck were suddenly sinking into soft ground. Either way, the driver, aware of what was happening, attempted to regain control of the truck by pulling it back onto the roadway. In the process of trying to correct the truck’s course, the driver overcorrected, causing the truck to begin to spin within the travel lanes.

Now completely out of control, the semi crashed into the guardrail located along the center median of the highway before beginning to tip over onto its side. The final resting place of the truck was lying along the passenger side within the center median of the busy highway.

Paramedics and EMTs were among the first responders to rush to the area. It is not believed that any other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident, and so the sole work of the emergency medical teams was to tend to the driver of the semi. This individual suffered only minor injuries in the incident, something that is remarkable given the fact that they were not wearing a seatbelt.

At the time of this writing, several citations have been issued against the driver of the truck. It is not clear if the incident remains under investigation.
