Osceola County Semi-Truck Collision Kills One
According to incident reports acquired from the Florida Highway Patrol, a fatal semi-truck collision occurred this past Thanksgiving weekend when it struck an Orlando-based tow truck on the Florida Turnpike.
Osceola County accident investigators state that on Friday, November 29th at approximately 10:35 a.m., two commercial vehicles collided with each other while traveling on the two-lane toll road near Mile Marker 226. The 2 trucks in question were driving in opposite directions on the always-busy S.R. 91 when, for reasons unknown, the tow truck veered from the southbound lane into the northbound and collided with the left-hand side of one of the tractor-trailer’s two-hitched hauls.
Witness statements retrieved from the FHP indicate that the force of impact from the collision caused the tow truck to careen off the road and into a tree located along the side of the interstate.
Dispatchers received the 911 telephone call shortly after the collision, and emergency response teams arrived at the scene soon thereafter. Upon evaluation of the victims, medical assistance was immediately applied to the tow truck driver, whom of which sustained the most serious of injuries. Despite exhausting all their efforts, the driver’s wounds were far too great and they passed at the scene. Forty-six year-old St. Cloud resident German Salgado (the semi-truck driver) was uninjured. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a part in this tragic accident. An investigation is currently ongoing.
Every year, Florida ranks in the top 5 among the most dangerous states in the country for auto accidents, with the top offenders including pedestrian deaths, semi-truck accidents, and motorcycle collisions.
