Lake County Semi-Truck Crash Fatally Injures 22-Year-Old Man

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 17, 2019

A crash that took place within Lake County on the morning of Thursday, July 11th, resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man. Shortly before the incident, sometime before 5:30 in the morning, the 22-year-old was driving their 2008 Chevrolet down U.S. 27. It is believed that they were approaching the intersection of U.S. 27 and Heritage Drive, just south of the Florida Turnpike, when the collision itself took place. The other vehicle involved in the crash, a semi-truck with an attached trailer, was traveling ahead of the Chevrolet. It is believed that both of the vehicles in question were driving the same way in the same lane.

The driver of the Chevrolet approached the rear of the semi truck, but for reasons that are not entirely clear, the 22-year-old failed to slow down as they neared the much larger vehicle. It is possible that the area where the collision took place is poorly lit and that at the hour of morning when the crash happened it was difficult for the 22-year-old to see the truck, however the rear lights on the trailer should have been more than bright enough to pierce the morning dusk.

Regardless, as the Chevrolet approached, its young driver failed to apply the brakes, instead crashing heavily into the rear of the truck. It was reported that the driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, a fact which very well might have also contributed to the severe injuries that the man sustained as a result.

When the emergency response crews reached the area, the driver of the Chevrolet was still alive, although very badly injured. They were taken from the crash site, placed into an ambulance, and rushed to a nearby hospital. It was after the man had been admitted to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. At the time of this writing, the name of this individual has not been made public.

The 62-year-old driver of the truck was not injured as a result of the crash. It is not believed that any charges are currently pending.
