Jackknifed Trailer Causes Massive Delays in Orange County
Pictures released by the Florida Highway Patrol spoke louder than any of the alarmed commentary issued by news agencies regarding a semi-truck accident that took place within Orange County during the evening of Wednesday, July 10th. The images, captured using cameras owned by the Florida Department of Transportation, showed the middle portion of what was likely a harrowing experience through and through. We can see, through the thickening gloom, a line of cars backed up along State Road 528. At the front of this line, causing the lengthy delays, is a semi truck.
The truck in question appears to be a tanker of some sort, although the photograph is not clear enough to make out what company the truck is hauling for, reports from authorities connected with the incident stated that the truck belonged to Racetrac, a familiar name to those who refuel their cars in the American south. Visible in the FDT photo is the outline of the logo: three unconnected circles followed by a blue/purple stripe that changes into red for its last quarter. The truck is no longer facing the correct way on the road. Instead, it is almost completely parallel to the line of traffic building behind it. Most alarming, the front of the truck is no longer on the asphalt at all but is dangling off of the steep embankment beside the road.
Behind the truck, at the very front of the line of stuck cars, is a red pickup truck. This truck is also facing the wrong way, suggesting that perhaps the tanker and the pickup were involved in a collision that resulted in the truck jackknifing and spinning off of the road.
The location of this crash was close to State Road 528’s 22nd mile marker. It is not known how long the roadway was closed before traffic was once again allowed through. It is also not known what exactly the police are considering to be the cause of the accident. Most importantly, the reports failed to state whether or not any was injured as a result of the collision and whether or not any charges are currently pending against anyone involved.
