Collision Between Trucks in Orange County Results in Life-Threatening Injury
A collision between two trucks in Orange County on Wednesday, January 30th, led county officials to shut down large portions of State Road 528 in order to best aid the cleanup and initial investigation. According to early reports from police with the Orlando Police Department, the truck accident took place shortly after 8:00 in the morning and involved at least two vehicles, one of which is believed to be a pickup truck while the other was described in the initial report as simply being a “truck.”
What exactly happened is not currently clear, but it is believed the two cars were both traveling down State Road 528 at the time of the crash. It is not known if they were traveling in the same lane or if they were even going in the same direction.
Due to reasons that are not clear, one of the vehicles, believed to be the pickup truck, left the roadway. It seems most likely that the driver of this vehicle lost control in the moments before the car left the roadway, but this supposition has been neither proven nor disproven. The second truck was, at this point in time, located in the median of the road. It is not known if this truck was stopped in the median or if something had happened to cause them to swerve into the median as well, but soon the pickup truck was headed directly towards the other truck and neither of the truck’s drivers seemed able to prevent the following collision.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene shortly afterward and began to tend to the injured individuals. It is believed that the only people involved were the drivers of the two vehicles. The driver of the pickup truck suffered from the worst of the injuries, and the responding EMTs and other medical personnel determined that in order for this individual to undergo treatment they would need to be airlifted from the scene of the crash to a nearby hospital. The hospital, as well as the emergency medical personnel who tended to this individual at the scene of the crash, indicated that the injuries they sustained were life-threatening.
At the time of this writing, no updates on the conditions of either of the drivers has been released.
