Charges Filed against Truck Drivers Involved in Deadly I-75 Crash
UPDATE: We recently reported on a horrific crash that took place along I-75, close to Gainesville, on January 3rd. In this accident, two tractor-trailers as well as several other vehicles were involved in a pileup that turned into a fiery explosion that left seven people, including five children, dead. Updates to the story informed the public that the children were all traveling inside of the same van and were being taken as part of a church trip from Louisiana to Walt Disney World.
Recently, news agencies reported that that the mother of one of the children who died in he incident is filing charges against the drivers of both tractor-trailers involved in the crash. The woman involved lost a 14-year-old child in the incident, and she believes that it was likely the decisions of one or both of the truck drivers that led to the fatal collision and subsequent fatalities.
The suspicions of this person do not come unfounded. Court data and other records clearly indicate that at least one of the truck drivers had been issued an unusually high number of tickets in the years between 2000 and 2014 for traffic violations that included driving an overloaded vehicle, speeding, and operating an unsafe vehicle. It is not known if the person filing charges was aware of this before she decided to press on with the case or if this information emerged only after the charges were formally submitted.
The fact that both of the truck drivers – one of whom was a West Palm Beach resident – involved in the incident also died does not seem to be a deterrent in the case, and the woman in question is demanding that the records for both of the truckers be investigated and that both trucks be carefully examined in order to determine if either one or both of these individuals is to be held responsible for the crash that ended in such tragedy.
At the time of this writing, no further details on the charges or the investigation is available. As the situation continues to unfold we will continue to provide updates when they invoke a notable development of the situation.
