Fatal I-4 Car Crash Illustrates Importance of Seat Belt Use
A rollover crash that claimed the life of a Boone High School student and her boyfriend and injured four other teens recently illustrated the importance of seat belt use for all drivers and passengers. Orlando auto injury lawyer James O. Cunningham has been helping auto accident victims since 1977 and has seen many serious injuries and deaths occur that were preventable if the victims had been wearing seat belts.

An Orange County man shot and fatally wounded one of two pit bulls he saw roaming freely in his neighborhood after seeing one of the dogs attack his cat. Orange County Animal Services officials say police responded to a call in the 6800 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard at about 5:30 p.m. on February 5 and found the dead pit bull on the road. The owner of the cat told investigating officers that the two pit bulls had damaged his yard and fence and that he had retrieved his weapon and killed one of the dogs when he saw it in his yard with one of his cats in its mouth.
Lawmakers Eye Legislation Targeting Distracted Pedestrians
Most of us are very familiar with the dangers of distracted drivers who talk on their phones, text, apply makeup, eat and engage in other risky behavior while behind the wheel. However, New York lawmakers are considering legislation that addresses the risks that joggers and pedestrians take when wearing headphones and devoting their attention to iPods, cell phones and other personal electronic devices. The proposed legislation would ban the use of portable electronic devices while walkers and joggers cross streets and highways so that pedestrians devote their full attention to making sure they cross the street safely.
Nephew of Dalai Lama Killed in Florida Pedestrian Accident
The nephew of Buddhism’s most revered leader was killed recently when he was walking along a roadway. He was trying to raise awareness about Tibetans trying to regain their independence from China. The 45-year-old nephew of the Dalai Lama was walking along State Road A1A around 7:30 p.m. on February 14 when a sports utility vehicle struck and killed him. Florida Highway Patrol officers say a 31-year-old Palm Coast man drove the SUV, but he has not been charged in connection with the fatal pedestrian accident. This stretch of S.R. A1A is especially notorious as a bicyclist was struck and killed nearby in September 2010.

Two motorcyclists were critically injured after a motorcycle accident recently near Cocoa. Orlando Personal Injury Attorney Warns Parents About Baby Monitor Recall
Orlando personal injury lawyer James O. Cunningham would like to alert all parents of infants that a massive recall of baby monitors is underway after two babies became entangled in the cords and were strangled. The recall was issued in early February after an investigation by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that electrical cords for the monitors posed a serious strangulation hazard for babies if placed too close to the crib. Nearly two million Summer Infant monitors are affected by the recall. The deaths of a 10-month-old girl in Washington, D.C. who was strangled by the cord of a Summer Infant monitor camera placed near her crib, and a six-month-old South Carolina boy who was also strangled when he became entangled in a monitor’s electrical cord prompted this recall.
Toyota Announces Massive Recall for Fuel Leak Problems
Toyota Motor Company announced a new recall recently that affects nearly 1.7 million of their luxury Lexus models. The problem is due to two fuel leak problems. The larger recall affects 1.3 million Lexus sedans sold in Japan, 225,000 sold in the U.S. and 10,000 sold in Europe. The recall concerns the improper installation of a fuel pressure sensor. In some cases, the sensor has vibrated loose, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment and create a serious fire hazard. The models sold in the U.S. that are affected by the recall include the following:
Your Next Car May Be Able to Warn About Potential Collisions
The futuristic cars in movies that are able to drive themselves, detect other vehicles around them, maintain regular intervals for safety and prevent crashes got closer to reality recently. Ford Motor Company announced that it has developed a fleet of prototype cars with technology that allows vehicles to “talk” to each other. Mike Shulman, one of Ford’s lead designers on the project, briefly explained how the system works by saying, “Basically your car would send out, ten times a second, a little wireless message that says here’s my position, here’s my speed, here’s my brake status…”

Co-workers say the accident occurred around 9:30 that morning at a construction site in the 900 block of Hillsboro Mile in Hillsboro Beach. The police investigation is still ongoing, but early reports say the 36-year-old victim fell eight feet onto the steel railing and was impaled through his thigh or abdomen. Police did not yet know what caused the worker to fall or whether he was wearing the safety harness required by Florida laws and regulations.
