Florida SUV Crashes into Golf Carts, Killing Two Women
Sometime around noon on Saturday, February 20th, 2016, a bizarre accident involving golf carts killed two women and injured two others. The incident, which happened on County Road 466A in The Villages, occurred when the driver of an SUV suffered a medical emergency while traveling through an intersection.
58-year-old David Martin McCurry of Fruitland Park had gone unconscious behind the wheel when his vehicle veered across the outside lane, jumped the curb, and continued toward The Villages’ golf cart pathway. On its way, the SUV took out a speed limit sign. A golf cart driven by 62-year old Kevin Earl Bruce was able to see the vehicle coming and avoid being hit, but his cart was clipped slightly by the SUV on its right side. Unfortunately, the SUV then crashed into the back of a second golf cart, causing both the cart’s driver and passenger to be ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the golf cart, 66-year-old Nancy Ann Vonnostitz, was taken to The Villages Regional Medical Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately did not survive. Likewise, the golf cart’s passenger, 68-year-old Marsha Eger, was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she later was pronounced dead. 34-year-old pedestrian Brian Williams was also struck by the SUV in the accident, and was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. No additional information has been provided as to Williams’ current state of health.
Charges are not expected to be brought, as the incident was caused by medical issues beyond the SUV driver’s control. As a result of his initial emergency and off-road collisions, McCurry was treated for serious injuries at The Villages Regional Medical Hospital.
