Woman Dies in Amway Arena Accident
A woman who suffered serious injuries while working at Amway Arena has died, according to hospital officials. An investigation into the accident is underway, but early reports claim the 53-year-old victim was struck by falling scaffolding and mortally injured while working for a subcontractor for Cirque du Soleil. Witnesses say the scaffolding fell from a forklift around 10:15 a.m. on May 3 while the victim was working near a loading dock. Coworkers saw the scaffolding begin to fall and tried to alert the victim, but she was unable to react in time. The investigation is ongoing, and charges may be filed pending the results of the investigation.
Many of the details surrounding this accident have not been released, but it is fairly clear that the scaffolding was not properly secured before being lifted into place. There are very explicit workplace regulations in place about working with forklifts, elevating heavy loads of equipment and workplace safety to reduce accidents like this from seriously injuring and killing workers. If investigators find that proper procedures were not followed and a shortcut or oversight led to this fatal accident, the at-fault parties can be held liable for damages.
No damages from a settlement or court award can replace a life, but they can make a huge difference in the lives of the victim’s family and help with the following:
• Replacing lost wages and supporting dependents
• Helping defray burial costs
• Paying hospital bills
• Offsetting the costs of counseling
• Other wrongful death damages
