Head-On Crash between Car and Lynx Bus sends Eight People to Area Hospitals
Orlando police officers are still investigating what caused a recent head-on collision between a Lynx bus and a passenger vehicle on Orange Avenue that sent 15 people to area hospitals. Accident investigators say that the crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Orange Avenue near the south end of Lake Ivanhoe. Police say that the driver of the car, age and address unknown, was apparently traveling in the wrong lane on Orange Avenue when it collided with the front of the bus, sending him and at least seven passengers on the bus to local hospitals.
Orlando firefighters had to cut the roof off the car to remove the driver, who suffered the worst injuries. He is listed in serious but stable condition with undisclosed injuries. Police say that 14 people on the bus suffered minor injuries in the accident but only seven of them were taken to hospitals for additional treatment. While Orlando police say that their investigation into the accident is ongoing, they have determined that the bus driver was in no way at fault for the accident. Orange Avenue was closed for two to three hours while investigators reconstructed the accident and debris was cleared from the roadway.
Police have not yet reported why the driver was traveling in the wrong lane on Orange Avenue but if he was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or otherwise negligent, he could be liable for damages. The injured passengers could seek compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering and other damages, and the bus company could seek compensation to repair or replace the damaged bus.
