Seven-Year-Old Hospitalized After Orange County Bicycle Accident
A child was badly injured on Tuesday, September 11th, within Orange County after being hit by a car. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol that emerged shortly after the incident itself took place suggested that the 7-year-old individual was riding along North Avalon Park Boulevard when the bicycle accident occurred.
It is not clear if the car involved was also traveling down North Avalon Park Boulevard or if the car was attempting to pass through or merge on to North Avalon Park Boulevard from Faberge Drive at the location where these two streets intersect. It is also not clear if the child on the bicycle was riding along the sidewalk or using any of the designated pedestrian zones to facilitate his path throughout the area.
The child and the car seemingly reached the area of North Avalon Park Boulevard and Faberge Drive at the same moment, and the boy on the bike then entered the roadway in such a manner as to be directly in the path of the oncoming car. It is not known why the driver of the car either failed to see the child or was unable to avoid them in time. An investigation into the matter is underway, and we hope to see updates from the Florida Highway Patrol over the coming days regarding the reasons behind this frightening incident.
The driver of the car, who has been cleared of all wrongdoing by the Florida Highway Patrol, remained at the scene of the accident while the police arrived and began to conduct their preliminary investigation into the crash. Paramedics and EMTs also arrived to treat the young boy for the injuries he sustained in the crash. Although the wounds he received from the car were not life-threatening or otherwise highly severe, he was taken from the area of the accident to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. We do not know if the child’s parents were at the scene of the incident or if they were notified after the accident itself took place.
At the time of this writing, the child is considered to be in stable condition, although it is not known if they are still inside the children’s hospital or if they were released after a brief period of observation and treatment.
