Morriston Bicyclist Killed During Hit-and-Run Crash on County Road 337
Officials with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) are currently requesting the public’s assistance with the identification of a hit-and-run driver that claimed the life of a 41-year-old bicyclist on County Road 337 in Levy County last Friday evening.
Although many aspects of this case are up in the air since the individual wanted in connection to this case has yet to be apprehended, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) have been able to release the few details known at this time. Responding officers stated that it was close to 7 p.m. on June 24, 2022, when a 41-year-old woman from Morriston was walking with her bicycle along County Road 337 in the southbound direction. As the bicyclist approached the road’s upcoming intersection with Southeast 59th Place on foot, a pickup truck struck the woman from behind and sped away. The impact from the collision was so forceful that the victim was thrown from her position onto the wet grassy shoulder next to the highway.
Several medical teams and emergency responders from Levy County were dispatched to the scene of the hit-and-run collision and upon their arrival, they were quickly determined that the 41-year-old victim had suffered severe injuries during the accident and had already passed away.
Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol believe the pickup truck to be a Ford Ranger-style of vehicle from 2006-2011. They also indicated that the truck in question will be missing the front right headlight and turn signal assembly, which was left behind when the suspect fled the scene of the crash.
