Flesh-Eating Bacteria Kills Employee of Universal Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 2, 2019

An investigation is underway into the death of a Universal Orlando employee who was consumed by a flesh-eating bacteria over the course of several weeks towards the end of August. The individual, who is survived by his wife and two children, first noticed a problem during the middle of the month, when he began to experience flu-like symptoms. The initial response of the individual was to call a medical hotline, where they were told that they did indeed have the flu. When the symptoms didn’t subside, the individual went to the emergency room.

Doctors at the emergency room corrected the mistaken diagnosis and told the patient the terrible news. According to the doctors, the individual had contracted strep A on a cut on his leg. The patient was not certain of where the cut came from, and it is not clear how the strep A became attached to the cut and then began to spread throughout the individuals body. What is known is that by the time they began to receive treatment and surgery the bacteria had eaten its way through most of the skin and muscle along one of the individual’s legs and had also begun traveling up their back.

Shortly after being admitted to the hospital, the man, a 50-year-old Orlando resident, became unresponsive. They remained like this for several days, undergoing surgeries and other treatments from the hospital staff who worked hard to try and save their life. Unfortunately, the aggressiveness of the bacteria made it so that the efforts of the medical teams were not successful. The man was declared dead at the end of August, only a week or so after they were admitted to the hospital.

It is not clear just how much work authorities are doing to try and discover just how this person contracted the deadly bacteria or who, if anyone, bears the responsibility for the death of this individual. The grieving family is attempting to raise money via a GoFundMe page to try and cover the medical costs as well as the expenses for a funeral. It is not known if Universal Orlando is offering any assistance to the family.
