Brevard County DUI Accident Kills 48-Year-Old Titusville Resident
According to arrest records from the Titusville Police Department, a 33-year-old man has finally been apprehended and charged with DUI manslaughter and reckless driving causing serious bodily harm for his alleged connection to a deadly high-speed collision in late January which claimed the life of a 48-year-old Titusville resident.
Accident details from the nearly seven-months-long investigation by the Titusville Police Department indicate that it was approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 20, 2021, when 33-year-old Ronnie Dale Huggins Jr. from Cocoa was driving a gold 2006 Buick Lucerne at a high rate of speed in the vicinity of the Cheney Highway and South Washington Avenue intersection. At this same time, 48-year-old Jonathan Edward Duff was driving a silver 2001 Ford Mustang and was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Cheney Highway onto South Washington Avenue. As the Mustang eased through the intersection, the Lucerne violently slammed into the sports car, ejecting the driver.
Brevard County medical response teams arrived at the scene of the accident within a matter of minutes and transported the severely injured 48-year-old Titusville resident to a local hospital, but he was unable to survive the serious nature of his injuries and he sadly passed away shortly after arriving at the emergency room.
Ronnie Dale Huggins Jr. also sustained serious injuries in the collision, but he has since made a full recovery. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail on charges of DUI manslaughter and reckless driving causing serious bodily harm and will face a judge on August 26, 2021.
Although there was video evidence of the fatal car crash, thanks to nearby traffic light cameras, it took investigators almost six months to comb through the footage in order to determine whether or not the collision was an actual accident or if other factors, such as speeding and drinking and driving, played into it.
