28-Year-Old Melbourne Resident Killed During Hit-and-Run Collision
After searching for several days without results, authorities with the Melbourne Police Department finally found the vehicle believed to have been connected to a deadly hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a popular restaurant manager over the weekend.
According to collision reports from traffic homicide detectives with the Melbourne Police Department, it was close to 2 a.m. on November 27, 2021, when 28-year-old local resident Nate Real was struck by a vehicle along U.S. 1 between New Haven Avenue and Strawbridge Avenue in downtown Melbourne. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision occurred and the victim passed away at the scene of the accident before emergency medical teams arrived.
Since Saturday morning when the fatal auto accident took place and after video surveillance footage was retrieved by nearby businesses, officers with the Melbourne Police Department had been scouring the area for the driver suspected of the hit-and-run, as well as a 2007-2013 red GMC Sierra or a similarly-styled truck with extensive front-end damage. Although the exact details have yet to be released to the public, a press release Monday morning indicated that officials had located the vehicle in question and a “person of interest.” There are no other updates regarding the case at this time.
The charismatic, fun-filled, 28-year-old Miami native was a well-loved and respected manager of the Mansion, a casual Italian/American eatery in Melbourne. “He is going to live on in all of us and his voice is forever going to be heard here. He was like the glue that tied us together. He was the person that even if you are having a bad day, he wanted to turn that around for you and make it a positive day,” a co-worker said.
