Recent Editorial Sheds Light on Orlando’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Accident Problems
A recent editorial published in the Orlando Sentinel caught the eye of Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham recently and resonated so strongly in him that he wanted to share it with his readers. The editorial was written by a local bicyclist named David Moran, who was inspired to craft his opinion after a recent well-publicized bicycle accident where a bicyclist was struck and killed by a fire truck. An excerpt from Mr. Moran’s editorial included the following:
Florida Crossing Guard Struck By Car
An Orange County crossing guard was struck by a car and injured one recent morning while on the job at 39th Street and Orange Blossom Trail. Florida Highway Patrol officers investigating the incident say that the accident occurred on the morning of October 25 when the 60-year-old crossing guard was struck and injured by a car driven by a 24-year-old Orlando man who was making a left turn onto Orange Blossom Trail. Officers say children were crossing the street when the accident occurred, and witnesses say that when the woman saw the car heading toward the crosswalk, she put up her hands to protect the children. She fell to the pavement after impact and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment for undisclosed injuries. Charges are pending against the driver of the car.
Orlando Personal Injury Lawyer Concerned About Contact Lens Recall
Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham was alarmed to learn recently that CooperVision, manufacturer of the Avaira line of contact lens products, has expanded an August recall after customers complained of hazy vision, eye discomfort and severe pain. CooperVision’s expanded recall now affects 6.6 million pairs of Avaira Sphere lenses in addition to the previous recall of 600,000 Avaira Toric lenses last summer. CooperVision urges customers who bought and used either type of lens anytime in the last 12 months to check the lot number of the lenses and call 855-526-6737 to see if the lenses are part of the recall.
Children’s Swimwear Recalled for Strangulation Hazard
Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham would like to alert Florida parents and grandparents about a recall that affects children’s swimwear due to a potential strangulation hazard. Build-A-Bear Workshop of St. Louis, in connection with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, has recently announced that their Swimwear Set With Inflatable Inner Tube is being voluntarily recalled and parents who own these garments should stop using them immediately. Any retailers who have this product on their shelves are ordered by the CPSC to remove this product immediately as it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell any recalled product.
DeBary Man Charged in Connection With Accident That Killed Two
A 19-year-old DeBary man has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving causing serious injury in connection with a “car surfing” incident. Police say the man was behind the wheel of a 2001 Nissan Xterra when he lost control and threw two passengers riding on the outside. Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham would like to caution all Florida drivers that it only takes a moment to do something that you’ll regret for the rest of your life, and this sad story is an unfortunate example of this.
