Statistics Show that Workplace Fatality Rate Increases in Florida
A surprising report that was released in March of this year shows that, while on-the-job fatalities are declining across most of the united states, workplaces in Florida are becoming less and less safe. In a thoroughly researched piece, the Orlando Sentinel discussed the contemporary issue as well as some of the many cases that have led to Florida’s fatality rate increasing from 2.7 to 3.1 deaths for every 1,000 confirmed workers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said that the recent year-long reporting period showed that while Florida’s fatality rate increased the national worker fatality rate declined, going from 3.43 deaths for every 1,000 workers to 3.38.
13-Year-Old Struck and Killed by Train in Sanford
An unnamed 13-year-old was walking near the SunRail tracks on Friday, during rush hour, when he walked in front of a train in Sanford. The train struck the young man and killed him. According to the initial police report, the crash occurred around 6:00 in the evening, close to West State Road 46, and resulted in a 45 minute delay to train service. 62 passengers were aboard the train that struck the teen, and they were required to stay aboard the train for several hours while the police conducted their initial investigation.
South Daytona Man Who Fled from Fatal Accident Found
Police in South Daytona are accusing a 50-year-old man from fleeing the scene of a fatal accident and driving while intoxicated after an accident on Thursday evening. According to the official report, Andrus Holmes was witnessed by police as he drove unpredictably through South Daytona. The police additionally stated that they saw Holmes run red lights and drive far over the speed limit. Because it was decided that Holmes was driving too fast to be apprehended, the police instead issued a lookout order. Less than five minutes after this order was issued, Holmes was involved in an accident after he ran a red light.

Woman Dies after Driving Car Into Winter Garden Retention Pond
Very early on Sunday Morning, Deborah Lynn Williamson was driving along Tilden Road in Winter Garden, close to where it intersects with Tiny Road when she somehow lost control of her car. According to the witnesses who called the police, Williamson suddenly swerved off of the road and drove straight into a retention pond. The emergency response teams were dispatched as soon as the witness called 911, but when they first arrived, shortly after 1:00 in the morning, they were unable to reach the sunken car.
