Manufacturer Recalls Frozen Meatballs Due to Food Borne Illness Risk
Orlando product liability lawyer James O. Cunningham would like to alert readers to an important product recall of frozen food that if ingested could cause serious health problems, especially for infants and the elderly. Buona Vita, Inc., a company based in Bridgeton, N.J., has announced that they are recalling nearly 73,000 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat food products due to the potential contamination of the products with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium associated with food borne illness.
The manufacturer reports that the potentially tainted products have been shipped all over the country but were only sold in Florida through Sam’s Club locations. The products affected by the recall include the following:

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Listeria monocytogenes is the bacterium that causes listeriosis, a food borne illness that sickens at least 1,600 people and claims the lives of 415 in the U.S. each year. Most people who contract listeriosis suffer relatively mild flu-like symptoms, such as muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and others. However, for pregnant women and people with compromised immune symptoms, exposure to this bacterium can be deadly. An infection can lead to miscarriage, gastroenteritis and other very serious health problems. Anyone with questions about the recall should contact Buona Vita at (856) 453-7972.
